Millicent Information

Millicent is a medium sized town in South Australia with a population of about 5,000 people. The town is home to the Millicent National Trust Museum (Also known as the Living History museum) that started in 1960 and is one of the townships icons and main attractions.

The Trust Museum should be your first stop on tour of Millicent. The Museum features horse drawn vehicles from centuries ago and contains heaps of memorabilia from the days gone by. Another great hit of the museum is the Steam Engine 224 that resembles somewhat the likes of Thomas the Tank Engine from the famous kids programme.

Millicent also contains a rich history having been founded in 1870 by the first Anglican Bishop of Adelaide. It first started out as a pulp and paper mill in the nearby place of Snuggery of which Kimberley Clark still remains the largest employer in town. The Pulp and paper mill lead to a major influx by European settlers in the early years of the towns growth.

Another great attraction in town is the Millicent Art Gallery and Resource Centre. The Gallery features exhibitions from local and interstate artists and changes on a regular basis. The Gallery provides an excellent time out on your holiday to explore the history and culture of the town.

For environmental lovers the best place to be is the nearby Lake McIntyre. The Lake is a bird loverís paradise featuring plenty of wildlife and nearly extinct birds located in an environmentally friendly Park. The park is also the perfect place for a family picnic.

Avid golfers will also enjoy a perfect round of golf at the Millicent Golf Club. Located off Mount Burr Road the golf course offers a magnificent 9 hole round of golf set amongst some of South Australiaís finest environment settings. The Golf course is open 7 days a week for your holiday enjoyment.
